Join local urban farmer Gavin Wright for a morning demystifying the process of growing your own plants from seed. Starting seeds indoors or outdoors can often be a frustrating experience, but Gavin will walk you through the steps you can take to ensure successful germination and care of your seedlings.
In this workshop you will learn how to select appropriate seeds for your garden, learn how and what to direct seed or start indoors, creating or purchasing seed starting mixes, discuss supplementary lighting, and troubleshoot common challenges. This workshop will be a combination of lecture and hands on opportunities.
Gavin Wright is the resident farmer at Loutet Farm in North Vancouver. After working with UBC Farm, Gavin set out farming for two seasons in Pemberton. His favourite days of the week were spent at the Farmers Markets because he had the opportunity to talk and connect with people buying his produce. His role with the Edible Garden Project at Loutet Farm combines in all: hands-on farming, educating and celebrating the growing Loutet Farm community.
Participant Instructions: This is an outdoor workshop, so please dress appropriately for the weather. There is a large parking lot at Loutet Farm, and it is also accessible by transit and bicycle. You DO NOT need to bring a paper copy of your ticket.
