This month of August was packed with so many different events at the farm! On August 13-15, we welcomed two more North Shore Neighbourhood House Kids Camps to the farm. We had a blast teaching them about pollinators, making nature art with them and showing them around the farm. Later in August, we also welcomed the Richmond Ecology Centre camp to the farm where we showed them around the farm and then made salad and salad dressing. Richmond Ecology Centre was our last camp visit of the summer which means…back to school! Our new Education Coordinator, Stephanie, is super stoked to begin the school garden programs again, and we are happy to be partnering with six schools this year.
Aside from camp visits, the farm was also busy preparing for our Food, Wine & Wishes event, which was held on August 22. This annual fundraising event helped us raise money for the farm, as well as other North Shore Neighbourhood House programs. Thank you to everyone who attended and all of our sponsors for helping us put on an amazing event. We also had our monthly Community Potluck on August 21, where volunteers and members of our local community gathered at Loutet Farm. Stay tuned for our next potluck date!
We have been very busy with our markets this summer! New produce is coming in every week to be sold at our Farm Gate Sales on Wednesdays and Community Farmers Markets on Saturdays. On August 24, we had an all-time high of 12 vendors signed up to be at our market.
And that concludes the summer! I had a blast being one of the summer students this year and learned so much these past 4 months. I would like to thank to EGP for giving me this opportunity to educate the young people of my community on how to grow their own food, and help deliver fresh produce to the public. All the best!
