Here’s an intro to our wonderful team of interns. We are so lucky to have them join us!

Andrea

Hi I’m Andrea. I am currently studying Environmental Protection Technology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. I found the EGP internship opportunity through school, and I’m really enjoying myself so far! I hope to continue learning about small scale city farming through the EGP staff and the community garden members. I look forward to seeing you all at a Farmer’s Market this summer!

Anna

Hi y’all! My name is Anna and I’m a current 4th year student in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at UBC Vancouver. I’m grateful to currently be residing on the traditional territory of the Musqueam people in Vancouver, and I’m originally from Austin, Texas, the traditional lands of the Jumanos, Tonkowa and Coahuitecan peoples. I came to EGP because I was excited by the chance to connect with the land and grow delicious food for the North Vancouver community, and was also so excited by the opportunity to work with such a wonderful community of interns! I’d love to gain experience learning about the in’s and out’s of growing food for production at markets, because it is new to me! I’ve loved my experience so far and cannot wait for the rest of the summer!

Cecile

Hi, my name is Cecile. I am originally from France, and have been living in the east and west coast of Canada for 9 years. I am interested and involved in art, fashion and sustainable questions. I wanted to learn more about food growing and found out about the internship at the EGP. I am grateful for this learning opportunity and looking forward to the upcoming season.

Chantelle

Hello! I’m Chantelle and I am just about to graduate from UBC with my undergraduate degree in Biology. I am interested to learn more about local, sustainable food systems as well as the process of planting, growing and harvesting produce. From participating in this internship, I am hoping to learn about the process of urban farming and to have the opportunity to work hands-on with the plants from seed to harvest. I am also excited to work alongside other people who are passionate about food and farming and to spend lots of time outside in the soil!

Cheyenne

I am from Poplar Hill First Nation, a small fly-in community in Northwestern Ontario. It is hard to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables due to very high freight costs along with other factors, this is something that needs to be fixed. I believe food is medicine, and is an essential part of building a healthy community. By participating in this internship, I hope to learn how to cultivate and grow food in order to start a community-led garden back home.

Giulia

I am a Cantonese-Roman Vancouverite that loves learning by playing in the outdoors. I joined the EGP internship because I am interested in sustainability topics related to food security, food justice and food sovereignty. This internship has provided me with a great opportunity to meet new friends and gain practical experience in the local food system through urban agriculture. It is a life-changing experience, as I am even more conscious about the amount of love that it takes to grow veggies.

Hilary

Hilary is a bicycle advocate, writer, and former tourism worker whose pandemic unemployment enabled her to do cool things like carpentry and gardening. Her passion for responsible urbanism led her to this internship, and she’s grateful for the opportunity to learn the tactile skills to back up her interest in food justice and resilient cities.

Olivia

Hello! My name is Olivia (she/her) and I am currently studying Art History and English Literature at UBC. In my spare time I can be found baking bread and experimenting in the kitchen. I love cooking food almost as much as I love growing food. Living and learning in North Vancouver, I am so excited to grow food for my community! See you all on the farm!

Pei

My name is Pei and i am a nurse working in Northeast UPCC. I enjoy hiking and traveling (when it was allowed). I joined the internship to learn about home gardening and be self sufficient one day.

Rhonda

Rhonda is a graduate student in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular biology at UBC. She researches honey bees, specifically monitoring the health stresses that hives face during blueberry pollination in the Fraser Valley (e.g. pathogens and agrochemicals). Rhonda’s work with bees has fostered her interest in diverse agriculture systems, food security, and plant-insect interactions. She is looking forward to hands-on experience at EGP where she can actively learn about urban farming and the community engagement that is an extension of it. She hopes to see lots of cool bugs this season!

Willow

I’m a student at UBC interested in urban sustainable agriculture and building queer community resilience. I’m hoping to build a small eco-farming community in the next few years, so I’m really excited to learn about gardening through this internship. So far, I’m really enjoying getting my hands in the dirt and spending time in the sun. I’m looking forward to watching the plants grow over the season!

Zachary

My name is Zachary Johnston (he/him), and I’m a third-year student at UBC studying natural resource conservation. I am originally from Cross River, New York, a small town on the edge of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a 4,315-acre park in northern Westchester county. I’ve always been fascinated by the interactions between humans and their environments, which is why I was inspired to apply to the EGP internship program. During this season, I want to learn about integrating agriculture systems into urban communities and combatting food insecurity here in Vancouver.

Mary (not pictured)

Hello, I am a university student who was looking for a green volunteer opportunity and came across the internship with EGP. I hope to learn the entire process of growing vegetables and applying it to my own garden.
