Professional farm on Parkland…. coming soon!
The City of North Vancouver and Greenskins lab are poised to become pioneers of urban farming in the region. On Monday December 7th 2009, CNV council approved staff recommendation to allow the CNV’s first urban farm on public parkland. The concept was proposed, and will be implemented by Greenskins Lab out of UBC at Loutet Park in the City of North Vancouver.
The concept of having a working farm on public land is new to the city, and municipal staff worked carefully through the intricacies and legalities. The plan was enthusiastically received by the public and will create a space that will not only produce healthy organic produce available to local residents, but will also provide a venue for education and engagement about the important social and environmental issues that can be tied into how, and where we get our food.
