Seed Starting: Seeding for Success

Start Successful Seedlings

Let’s get started! Learn how to start your vegetable garden indoors and get a head start on the growing season. The process of growing your own plants from seeds can often be a frustrating experience, but Gavin Wright will walk you though the steps to ensure successful germination and care of your seedlings. Planting seeds indoors and nurturing  them into healthy seedlings will save you money and give your garden a great start.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Get the supplies you’ll need to start seeds indoors
  • Create the appropriate light and temperature conditions for success
  • Select the appropriate seeds for your garden
  • Learn how to direct seed or start seedlings indoors
  • Take care of your indoor seedlings
  • Transition your seedlings to your garden
Gavin Wright is the resident farmer at Loutet Farm in North Vancouver. After working at UBC Farm, Gavin operated a mixed vegetable farm in Pemberton. His favourite days of the week were spent at the Farmers Markets because he had the opportunity to talk and connect with people buying his produce. His role at the North Shore Neighbourhood House’s Edible Garden Project at Loutet farm combines his strengths: hands-on farming, educating, and celebrating growing food with the community.
Participant Instructions: This workshop will be held outside at Loutet Farm. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear.
