Workshop: Garden Upcycling: Make a Burlap Hanging Planter

This fun & crafty workshop to make a simple hanging basket using repurposed materials. You will learn:

  • To upcycle burlap and an old wire hanger to create a hanging planter;
  • Plant your own selection of flowers;
  • Discuss ideas for hanging your planter and creating other types of planters using burlap.

Participants will leave with a completed hanging planter, new crafty friends & the inspiration to create more gardening decor out of repurposed ‘junk’.

Denise Corcoran (Thrifty By Design) is a community catalyst, crafter extraordinaire and upcycler of things based in North Vancouver, BC. Sharing her enthusiasm for crafting and upcycling, Denise facilitates ‘Crafternoons’ throughout Vancouver where participants of all ages and skill levels learn how to make things from unorthodox materials. She was a featured panelist at the Craft Council of BC talk called ‘Craft, The Environment & Our Community’. She was also the BC Champion for the fourth annual Culture Days, a national, nonprofit 3-day event promoting culture throughout Canada. In addition Denise is a regular contributor to North Vancouver-based LowerLonsdale.cawriting DIY tutorials, features on local resources & organizations.

Participant Instructions: Materials will be supplied (burlap, wire, liner and potting soil). Bring any flowers you want to plant in your hanging basket.
